Applications

All Categories – August 21st

IGNITE 2017 will have four categories that you can apply to!

Discovery Category: $25,000 CDN and work space at Spark Centre’s head office, The Loft in Downtown Oshawa for six months. Additional support from Spark Centre as a client including executive coaching, functional advisory and day to day operational support.

Scale-up Category: $25,000 CDN sponsored by Beijing Future Science Park . The Scale-up category winner will also receive a one-week trip to Beijing for exploratory discussions, in addition to an in-kind prize of $5,000 CDN in professional services from Bereskin & Parr. The winner will also get work space at Spark Centre’s head office, The Loft in Downtown Oshawa for six months. Additional support from Spark Centre as a client including executive coaching, functional advisory and day to day operational support.

Student Entrepreneur Category: $5,000 CDN and an in-kind prize of $1,250 in professional legal service from Thomas & Efraim LLP. Additional support from Spark Centre as a client including executive coaching, functional advisory and day to day operational support.

Ontario Power Generation Category: The winner of this category will receive an opportunity to collaborate with Ontario Power Generation in addition to $25,000 CDN of seed funding to further develop their idea.

There is a $25 application fee for the Discovery and Scale-up categories. There is no fee to apply to the student entrepreneur and Ontario Power Generation categories.

A team will review applications and confirm if you are eligible to compete in Ignite and may place you in a different category based on the stage you are at in your business.

You will be notified if you have successfully been accepted to participate in Ignite.

All applications must be received before 5:00pm EST on September 29th, 2017

Pitch School Round One

Discovery, Scale-Up and Student – October 10th

Successful applicants will participate in a pitch school, led by Spark Advisor Robert Weese.  Applicants will learn the art of making a 1 minute elevator pitch in preparation for the Ignite Pitch Competitions to be held the following week.

Pitch Competitions Round One

Discovery – October 18th

Scale-up & Student – October 19th

Each Ignite applicant in these categories will have a chance to make their pitch to a judging panel made up of local entrepreneurs and business leaders. The judging panel will be responsible for judging each pitch and selecting finalists who will move on to the Round 2 Pitch Competition.

Pitch School Round Two

Discovery, Scale-Up and Student – October 30th

Before participating in the Round 2 Pitch Competition participants will have a chance to refine their pitch further with the Spark Centre advisory team.

OPG Pitch School Round One

OPG Category – October 27th

OPG category applicants only will participate in a pitch school, led by Spark Advisor Robert Weese and Ontario Power Generation employee mentors.  Applicants will learn the art of making a 3 minute pitch in preparation for the OPG Pitch Competition.

Pitch Competition Round Two

Discovery, Scale-Up and Student – November 6th

Finalists from Round 1 Pitch Competitions will participate in a Round 2 Pitch Competition. Each team will have the opportunity to deliver a 3 minute investment pitch to the Ignite Power Panel. After presentations are complete, a Student Entrepreneur will be selected on site and awarded $5,000 and 4 Ignite finalists will be chosen to advance to the next round. These finalists include 2 from the Discovery category and 2 from the Scale-up Category.

OPG Pitch Competition

OPG Category – November 14th

OPG Category applicants will have the opportunity to deliver a 3 minute investment pitch to the OPG Ignite Power Panel. After presentations are complete, 4 OPG Category finalists will be chosen to advance to the next round.

Boardroom Presentations

Discovery, Scale-up and OPG Category – November 29th

The final step in the Ignite process – the Ignite finalists will each deliver a 20 minute investment presentation to the Power Panel. The presentation will be followed by a 10 minute Q&A session, where team will face real scrutiny from entrepreneurs, investors, and business leaders who have been there and done that. Following the Boardroom Presentations, our Ignite Power Panel will select the Ignite winners!

A night of celebration where we will announce the three Ignite winners who will be awarded $25,000 in seed funding!
