When we say “it takes a village” to create an economic shift in Durham Region, we aren’t kidding. We have a huge group of diverse organizations pulling together for Ignite.
Recently, the members of Team Ignite met at the Whitby Public Library to catch up on the details (and to don matching jackets!). With much of the work happening in flurries of emails and conference calls, it was nice to sit around the table and see what a big group we’d become.
Here’s some of the key organizations involved:
Ignite is led by Spark Centre (with support from VentureStart) and The Region of Durham. We work closely with groups that are dedicated to supporting local start-ups, such as the BACD, and Spark Angels investor network.
We’re very happy to partner with local entrepreneurs who now run wildly successful companies. Ignite has been shaped by the energy and expertise of Jason Atkins from 360 Incentives, Jeff Quipp from Search Engine People, and Wayne Conrad from Omachron.
For connections to the latest research, student-run spin-offs, and faculty innovators, we are glad to have have UOIT and Durham College on the team. Other valued partners include OPG, The RMG and Metroland Media.
Key government partners include economic development officers from the Town of Ajax, The City of Oshawa, the Town of Whitby, the City of Pickering, and the Clarington Board of Trade. There are innovators, inventors and entrepreneurs in every corner of Durham, and we’re on the hunt to find them all!
By coming together we can pool our resources, share our knowledge, and forge new connections. Ultimately, we’ll make a bigger impact than we could as individual organizations.
If you have any questions, please contact email@example.com and one of the core members of Spark Centre will be pleased to help you out.
