We are pleased to present the Boardroom Competition Judges for the 2017 OPG Ignite Category! This panel of experts is responsible for selecting the winners.

 

Jason VanWart – VP Inspection & Reactor Innovation, OPG
Jason Van Wart is a professional engineer who attended the University of New Brunswick, where he completed both a Bachelor and Masters of Mechanical Engineering. He began his career at OPG in 2001 and has worked in Nuclear Engineering, Finance, Inspection and Maintenance. In 2014, Jason achieved Dean’s List standing while completing his MBA at the Rotman School of Management.

Late in 2014, Jason was appointed to the position of Vice President for Ontario Power Generation’s Inspection and Reactor Innovation (IRI) Division. With more than 450 staff and an annual operating budget of $150M, IRI is responsible for safely executing the specialized inspection and maintenance programs at OPG’s power generating facilities.

Under Jason’s lead, IRI has progressed a mandate to support innovation in Ontario. IRI currently engages with key regional innovation players including the University of Ontario – Institute of Technology, and the Spark Centre, one of Ontario’s designated innovation centres. This fall, IRI is a lead sponsor at the Spark Centre’s Ignite innovation pitch competition.

Outside of work, Jason is passionate about contributing to his hometown community of Saint John, New Brunswick and is a part owner of the National Basketball League of Canada’s Saint John Rip Tide. The team provides approximately $1M annually to the economy of Saint John.

 

Glenn Jager – President, OPG Nuclear and Chief Nuclear Officer, OPG
Glenn Jager is the President, OPG Nuclear and Chief Nuclear Officer at Ontario Power Generation (OPG).  Glenn was appointed to this position in April 2015.  Prior to this appointment, Glenn was Chief Nuclear Officer (CNO), appointed in November 2013.  Glenn is also President of Canadian Nuclear Partners (CNP), a wholly owned subsidiary of OPG providing technical management and field services to the Nuclear Industry and Power Sector.  Glenn reports directly to President and CEO Jeffrey Lyash.

Prior to his appointment as CNO, Glenn was the Senior Vice President at Pickering Nuclear. Appointed to this position in August 2011, Glenn was responsible for the strategic direction, planning and execution required to achieve nuclear production targets at Pickering, while focusing on safety and reliability.

Glenn joined OPG (formerly known as Ontario Hydro) in 1981 as a System Engineer at Pickering. He has held positions of increasing responsibility within OPG as, Shift Manager, Reactor Projects Manager, Outage Manager, Maintenance Manager, and a two year secondment to the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) in Atlanta as a Team Manager in Plant Evaluations. Upon his return from WANO, Glenn was appointed Director of Operations and Maintenance at Pickering Nuclear, and then as Site Deputy Vice President at Darlington Nuclear.

Glenn has been licensed as a Shift Manager at Pickering and a Duty Manager at both Pickering and Darlington Nuclear stations. He is a graduate of the University of Western in 1981 with a BESc in Electrical Engineering.

 

Frank Auddino – President, VITALIZ Inc.
Frank Auddino, President Vitaliz has spent 30 years working with large businesses and entrepreneurs providing Business Development for organizations such as TC Transcontinental, Rupert Murdoch News Corporation, the Jim Pattison Group of Companies, and was a majority partner in a Rogers Media company.

He spends most of his time volunteering in the not for profit sector and social enterprises he cares most about– his community, youth, entrepreneur start-ups and four-legged friends….

Mentoring at Spark Centre, UOIT and Durham College; active Investor, member of multiple angel groups, and part of the membership committees with Angel Investors Ontario( AIO) and the National Angel Capital Organization (NACO) and is currently VP and cofounder of Start Up Durham.

 

Steve Woods – Senior Vice President, Nuclear Engineering & Chief Nuclear Engineer, OPG
Steve reports to the President, OPG Nuclear and Chief Nuclear Officer, Glenn Jager and is responsible for the Nuclear Engineering Department.

Before taking this position, Steve was the Senior Vice President at Nuclear Refurbishment. Prior to that, he was the Vice President of Fleet Operations and Maintenance where he was responsible for implementing a Centre-Led Operating Model for Nuclear Operations, Maintenance and Work Management, as well as managing the delivery of key support functions.

Over the years, Steve has held various positions with Ontario Power Generation, including Director of Maintenance at Pickering; Manager of Operations and Director of Engineering at Darlington. He also spent some time in Atlanta, participating in Institute of Nuclear Power Operators (INPO) reviews of other nuclear facilities.

 

Nicolle ButcherVP Corporate Strategy & Planning, OPG
Nicolle has over 20 years of project experience across a wide range of projects including establishing a lease with British Energy for the Bruce Nuclear plant and development of the Portlands Energy Centre.  Nicolle currently is accountable for articulating OPG’s strategy and driving strategic initiatives aligned with the strategy.

Nicolle currently sits on the Board of Directors of Portlands Energy Centre.  Nicolle holds a Bachelor and Master degree in Business Administration and is a Chartered Business Valuator.  Nicolle earned a Certified Project Manager designation from Stanford University and has earned an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
